Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Reader,

We come to you with an extra edition of our ISfTeH newsletter to report about the World Health Organization's recruitment of a new Chief Information Officer. As an NGO in Official Relations with WHO, the ISfTeH has, for many years, built up a sustained and systematic engagement in the interest of the Organization and supports the advancement of public health (in particular through the meaningful use and implementation of telemedicine and eHealth solutions). We are convinced that among our members and worldwide contacts, there are many who will fit the profile that the WHO is looking for!
I also take this opportunity to invite you to join us at some of our upcoming events and webinars. You will find more details below.
If you have any questions or would like to get in touch, contact us at
Prof. S. Yunkap Kwankam

The CIO will work within the Department of Information Management and Technology (IMT). The mission of the IMT is to connect people and allow free exchange of information and knowledge through reliable and relevant IT services in support of WHO's health mandate. The department leads all WHO IT teams globally in ensuring IT modernization, cost efficiencies through savings, increased staff productivity, harmonization across the Organization whilst being supported by performance monitoring and reporting processes. Services which are common to all WHO offices are standardized, operated, and supported from a central yet cost-effective location. Finnish Society of Telemedicine & eHealth to host next year's ISfTeH International Conference
In 2018, the ISfTeH International Conference moves from its traditional autumn schedule, to spring, in order to coincide with the annual meeting of the Finnish Society of Telemedicine and eHealth (the national member for Finland in the ISfTeH).

The Finnish Society will indeed host the 23rd ISfTeH International Conference at its "eHealth2018 - Health Communities Facing Cyber Transformation" event, which takes place aboard a cruise on the Baltic Sea between Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden (on March 15-17, 2018).

The so-called ISfTeH International Conferences (a tradition since the ISfTeH's inception in the mid-'90s) are always linked with an existing national/regional conference, organized by one of the ISfTeH national or institutional members. The conferences are an opportunity for ISfTeH members to present to or hear from a national/regional audience. In the case of the Finnish conference, that means exposure among a Finnish audience, as well as other Nordic and Baltic countries.

A call for abstracts is currently open for the Finnish conference (deadline: December 8th). Go here for more information about the conference and abstract submission guidelines.

Click here for preliminary conference program (pdf).

Early-bird registration for the conference is available until December 17th at Registration includes a room on the boat, conference participation and meals. A discount is available for ISfTeH members (contact us at for more information).
